The Green Film Series is excited to present the visually spectacular documentary film, Chasing Ice as the opening film for the fall Green Film Series. This is a chance to see this film before the general theatrical showings in Canada. The film will be shown on September 17 at the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse.
The Green Film Series has chosen films for this fall that reflect some of the most important issues of the day: climate change, open media and the oil pipeline and tankers. The popular series is presented by Sustainable Coast Magazine and the Gibsons Green Team each fall and spring in collaboration with the Sunshine Coast Film Society.

Chasing Ice tells the story of National Geographic photographer James Balog's mission to change the tide of history by gathering undeniable evidence of climate change. In 2006 Balog started deploying revolutionary time-lapse cameras to record the world's changing glaciers.  Putting his career and well-being at risk, Balog brings us a visully stunning film with a courageously hopeful message. “We are very excited to bring this film to the Coast”, said Billie Carroll, associate editor of Sustainable Coast Magazine and technical coordinator for the Sunshine Coast Film Society. “This is a spectacular film to view on our new projection system at the Playhouse. With our new projector and large screen, we can now present films to our audience in the most up-to-date format.”

The complete fall line-up includes “Big Boys Gone Bananas” on October 22 and “The Pipedreams Project” on November 26 with short films from Pacific Wild and Greenpeace.

The Green Film Series is dedicated to using film as a tool for community engagement on environmental and sustainability issues. The screening events are meant to foster the role of film as a catalyst for dialogue, networking and action by featuring environmental-themed films, filmmakers and discussions to engage the audience.

Tickets are $7 for SC Film Society members, or $10 for the single event. SCFS annual memberships ($15) are available at the door or on the SCFS website at scfs.ca. Screening time is 7:30pm, the doors open at 7pm. The Gibsons Heritage Playhouse is located at 662 North Road in Gibsons, BC.
