A new nation-wide organization Common Causes has formed a coalition with the Idle No More movement and over 80 other organizations as a new national peoples’ network uniting communities, labour, environmental and social justice groups. The organization will launch on Monday, January 28 with coordinated protests across Canada.

Parliament resumes sitting on the 28th so that date has been chosen to begin an aggressive campaign to oppose the Harper Conservative agenda. A Sunshine Coast demonstration will take place in Sechelt at the corners of Wharf Street and the SC Highway 101 from 4 to 5:30 pm. on the 28th.

Organizer Jef Keighley of Alliance 4 Democracy Sunshine Coast and chair of the Sunshine Coast Senior Citizens has called upon citizens of the Sunshine Coast " to show that there are people who care our country and our democracy". People are encouraged to bring signs and to join the new Common Causes network.

A mid-island demonstration has been called for in Nanaimo at 12 noon in Diane Krall Plaza (in front of the public library).

Common Causes describes their organization as "an assembly of social movements dedicated to defending democracy, the environment, and human rights. In keeping with the values of the significant majority of peoples who reside in Canada, Quebec, and on Indigenous lands, we provide alternatives to the current Conservative government's agenda. We believe that coordinated action is needed to take a strong stand against this agenda that is changing society in critical areas such as the economy, the environment, labour rights, health care, food safety, education, social programs, culture, civil liberties, peace, and poverty".
