The Sunshine Coast Community Forest has announced that there will be a presentation of a watershed assessment of the Chapman Creek and Grey Creek watersheds on Monday, March 10 at 6:30 pm. at the Seaside Centre in Sechelt.  The presentation by Ms. Glynnis Horel, P.Eng will detail the findings of a comprehensive coastal watershed assessment.

In a message to members the Sunshine Coast Conservation Association stated that they were not previously advised that this assessment was underway, nor did they receive any material to review in advance of this presentation. "It can only be assumed that further logging is being planned for these watersheds, an action that the SCCA is opposed to. Please attend this presentation and make your views known on logging within our main water supply areas", said the SCCA.

When contacted SCCF manager Dave Lasser stated, " Jason (Herz SCCA president) has been aware of this assessment for at least six months. We have announced this in the Coast Reporter and this is our public information meeting".

The Sunshine Coast Community Forest  is operated by Sechelt Community Projects Inc. with the District of Sechelt being the sole shareholder of the Corporation. SCPI holds and manages a license to harvest as a BC company and was incorporated on March 8, 2005. Their mission statement: "Creating a legacy for our citizens by being exceptional stewards of our forest while balancing environmental, economic and social aspirations of the community".

The assessment report will be available on-line after the presentation.
