Elphinstone Logging Focus (ELF) has effectively stopped logging in the Chapman Creek watershed by Surespan Group of North Vancouver. Hans Penner of ELF was in the forest on Monday, October 6 when he noticed a new road and cutblock above the creek.
ELF immediately organized a road block and successfully stopped contractors for two days. Today Surespan has agreed to pull out their equipment and not to log the east side of their cutblock. According to ELF, Surespan may look at this again in the spring of 2015.
The logged property is on private land, but is in the Chapman Creek watershed. There was concern with the steep slope of the land and the type of soil and runoff into the creek which would eventually make its way into the watershed.
