Coles Marine Diesel Repair, a heritage building in Lower Gibsons, was destroyed by fire on Friday, June 4.

The blaze started around 3:00pm and was soon out of control.  At least two buildings on the Langdale side of it were involved in this massive fire. The building immediately adjacent to Coles Marine was the Wynken Blynken Nod Backpackers Hostel, which was also completely destroyed.

At first report, there were no injuries.  Fire officials are still investigating.

Marine Drive in Lower Gibsons was closed to traffic, and the fire caused a power outage in much of Gibsons.  Power was also out from Lower Gibsons to Langdale, up the sound to Port Mellon, and on Gambier Island.
