The first screening of the Green Film Series, “The Clean Bin Project" was well received with over 85 attendees. Film makers Jen Rustemeyer and Grant Baldwin introduced their film and answered questions from the audience. With a lot of personal stories and some wonderful humour, they led the audience to thinking more about what we buy, use and throw away.
An additional short film on the Gibsons Recycle Depot was shown by Grant. They had visited the depot the previous month and spent an afternoon filming the depot and what they do there. Barb Hetherington of GRD was there to answer questions about what can be recycled and reused. She told the audience that they adhered to all the R principles with reduce and reuse as their first priorities. She relayed information about their Zero Waste Store and all the many items that are available at very little charge.
The next film in the series is "In Transition 1.0". This film is about the Transition Town movement that began in the UK. It will be shown on October 24 at the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse at 7:30 pm. Transition initiatives from seven countries explain how they are mobilizing to improve their resilience by developing local food networks, local energy supplies, local transport – even local money. It is positive, solutions focused, viral and fun. Members of Transition Town Powell River will attend as guest speakers.
The series is presented by Sustainable Coast magazine and the Gibsons Green Team in cooperation with the Sunshine Coast Film Society.
