The triple drivers of declining oil supplies, climate change and economic instability are bringing inevitable change to the Sunshine Coast.  The pace of this change is likely to increase.  Are we ready? The Transition Town (TT) Movement is a global initiative intended to inspire, mobilize and empower whole communities as they explore and implement opportunities to become more self-reliant and resilient in the face of these changes.
Following two very well attended and well received public films on the topic, an ad hoc Sunshine Coast TT Initiating Group convened to organize a two-day weekend "Training for Transition" workshop.  This workshop will be held on Saturday, Feb.18th and Sunday, Feb 19th, from 9-5 at Frank West Hall, beside Cedar Grove School in Gibsons.  It will be skillfully facilitated by Michelle Colussi of the Canadian Center for Community Renewal.  The fee is $95.  Coffee and tea provided.  Bring your own lunch and snacks.
Participants should come ready to join some of the areas most progressive self-selected thinkers in exploring the Transition Town model and its possible applications for the lower Sunshine Coast.  Registration for the event is limited, and can be found at www.greenomics.ca.  Questions about this important workshop can be addressed to Leonie Croy via This email address is being protected from spambots.  Concepts such as localization, permaculture, social justice, energy descent, reskilling, genuine progress indicators and grassroots capacity building weigh heavily in the TT model.  Process pieces like inclusivity, collaboration, inner journeys, open space technology and community building are also fundamental to the Initiative.  More information can be found at www.transitionnetwork.org
