The 5th Annual Sunshine Coast BioBlitz is nearly here and everyone is invited to participate!  The fun will start on Saturday, August 11th and will continue until the final count in the afternoon of Sunday, August 12th.  Part contest, part festival, part educational event and part scientific enterprise, a BioBlitz is a 24-hour survey of all life at various field locations throughout the Sunshine Coast including the Ruby Lake Lagoon Nature Reserve.

The event attracts over 300 local and off-coast participants, including visiting specialists in the field of natural science.  Community members get the chance to work together with scientists throughout the weekend to survey, count and identify Sunshine Coast species.  In addition, the Iris Griffith Centre Base Camp offers a wide range of free activities, games, and entertainment for families and youth to enjoy.

If you have experience in the natural sciences and would like to lend your expertise to the count & identification, you will need to  fill out the registration form on the website (see link below).  There are some perks such as accommodation for off-coast volunteers, reimbursement of travel expenses, and free, great food throughout the weekend, thanks to generous sponsors.

If you simply want to come on out, learn a bit and have a great time together with other nature enthusiasts, please RSVP to ‘This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.’.

You’ll find more information on the website including a detailed itinerary of the weekends activities & field locations (will be posted by Saturday, and updated throughout next week).
