Greens Call on Government to Stand Up for BC on Kinder Morgan Pipeline

Celebrate Earth Day with Northern Grease and the Green Film Series

On Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22 get on board the veggie bus and follow a group of snowboarders and surfers as they travel throughout British Columbia and Alberta on a mission to understand Canadian resource extraction projects. This film screening at the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse follows Beyond Boarding team members as they travel together on a trip 5,211 km across the province in an effort to showcase the destructive nature of the various industrial projects that are currently facing BC and First Nations communities.

Young Filmmakers Show Their Stuff on April 3

This Thursday, April 3rd, the Reel Youth Film Festival, in partnership with Disappearing Gallery, will provide a stage for young filmmakers to show their stuff to a local audience. The festival will screen at the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse at 7 pm. Admission is $7.

"Revolutionary advances are being made in the study of salmon" according to Brian Riddell, President of the non-profit Pacific Salmon Foundation, when he spoke at the Cedars Inn in Gibsons on March 25.  The most recent and exciting scientific initiatives involve smolt tagging and genomics.

Update from the Courtroom on Water and Fracking Challenge

As the BC government continues to push forward with its plans to develop a massive liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry – which will require thousands of new fracking wells to feed new LNG plants – The Wilderness Committee, Sierra Club BC and  lawyers at Ecojustice, are challenging the BC Oil & Gas Commission’s common practice of granting of repeated short-term water permits for oil and gas companies – a practice that violates BC’s own Water Act.

Coasters Attend Victoria BC Ferry Protest Rally

A bus load of concerned Sunshine Coast residents attended the BC Ferry protest rally in Victoria on March 11. They joined over 1000 citizens in expressing their dissatisfaction with the ferry service cuts. Speeches by business people, First Nations, the NDP, the ferry workers Union and everyday users reiterated the message to bring the ferry system back under the Ministry of Transportation.

Award-winning film Watermark Screens on March 17 to Mark UN World Water Day

Watermark is a feature documentary film that brings together diverse stories from around the globe about our relationship with water: how we are drawn to it, what we learn from it, how we use it and the consequences of that use.

SC Community Forest Announces Watershed Assessment Report for March 10

The Sunshine Coast Community Forest has announced that there will be a presentation of a watershed assessment of the Chapman Creek and Grey Creek watersheds on Monday, March 10 at 6:30 pm. at the Seaside Centre in Sechelt.  The presentation by Ms. Glynnis Horel, P.Eng will detail the findings of a comprehensive coastal watershed assessment.
