Green Drinks, World Cafe Upcoming Events For One Straw

Hey all you lovely people!

It's been a long time since I've had the pleasure of sending out one of these Food Action e-newsletters ... it's so nice to correspond with y'all again :)

I'm writing to let you know about a couple things:  an exciting event we have coming up this Thursday, and to let you know about a recent change in our program.

Our hardworking and dedicated Food Systems Network Coordinator, David Steele, is unfortunately leaving the position due to a health concern, but we are so grateful to have had the benefit of his enthusiasm, fresh perspective, and serious commitment to a resilient and food sovereign Sunshine Coast.  He did an excellent job of integrating himself quickly into this dynamic and challenging position, and contributed a great deal of wisdom, experience, and lots of hard work which has positively effected our programs and outreach.

Thank you so much David, and we wish you the best in your future endeavours!

We will be soon posting the job description for this position with more details on how to apply, so if you're passionate about the future of our community and have some skills in event organizing, food systems, and community engagement, please consider preparing your resume and keep your eye out for the job posting (coming soon!).

In the interim, Chris Hergesheimer, our One Straw president will be receiving any This email address is being protected from spambots. And now for something exciting ...
I'd like to invite you all to come out this Thursday, Nov. 29th to our special Green Drinks event:
A World Café style exploration of our local food system and how our community can work together to move forward to a sustainable food future!

If you haven't heard of Green Drinks before, it's a monthly social for folks who are interested in all things Green ... environment, food, transportation, ecology, eco-nomics and more.  One Straw and the Art Farm co-sponsor, with the help of some amazing community volunteers.  It's always held on the last Thursday of the month from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.  Check out the facebook page, and please do come out for some fun & intelligent conversation ... bring a friend, and kids are welcome too!

If you haven't heard of World Café before, it's basically an interesting way to have a group conversation around questions that matter to our community ... it's creative, fun, and is a novel technique to share ideas with each other when there are many people involved.  Here are a couple of links if you'd like to know more:

This Café conversation is a part of a larger process over the next year to increase our community engagement and find out what's working, what's not, and how we can increase our effectiveness in fulfilling our charter

If you're considering becoming a member of One Straw, this Thursday is a great time to do it as we'll draw for a FREE ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP to any who sign up!

Well, it was nice to chat with you :), and I hope to see some of your shining faces out on Thursday.

Ciao for now,
Nadi

Final Cohen Report Says DFO Should Quit Salmon Farm Promotion

Justice Bruce Cohen just released his Final Report on his 3-year, $26 million commission into the 17-year decline of the Fraser Sockeye.

I want to share Cohen's incredibly strong wording within the confines of his mandate, which was specific to the Fraser sockeye. Clearly, however, Fraser sockeye are not different from other salmon in their vulernability to the array of farm salmon pathogens.
