Fall Green Film Series Opens with More Than Honey

The Green Film Series has announced their fall line-up of films. This special series organized by Sustainable Coast Magazine (sustainablecoast.ca) and the Gibsons Green Team in collaboration with the Sunshine Coast Film Society features environmental-themed films shown at the Gibsons Heritage Theartre. Scheduled for the months of September, October and November, the films will be shown on Mondays, alternating with the SCFS's regular schedule of films.
Morton Asks for Testing of Bleeding BC Herring

Herring found along the shoreline of Sointula, Malcolm Island on the northeastern Vancouver Island are showing severe symptoms of bleeding reports biologist Alexandra Morton. Morton states, "This is a re-occurring event, but this is most severe symptoms that I have seen. In past, the fins of the herring have been bloodshot, but now it is also their bellies. They are bleeding from beneath their scales, many are bleeding in their eyeballs."

This years tour will be followed by the INCREDIBLE, EDIBLE, CULTIVATING COMMUNITY POTLUCK at Mission Point Park in Davis Bay. Garden tour runs 10-4 PM. The Potluck and social event from 4:30-7:30 PM with music, food, and kids activities.
Rogest Brings Art and Environmental Education to Kids on the Coast

Rogest is an artist with a passion for the environment. He also understands how important it is to encourage young people to care and respect the environment. Combining his love of the oceans, diving and his art, Rogest has created a kid's art program he calls the Kids Gallery program. The program will be offered at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre on August 6-8.

I look out of our windows, and I see Gibsons Harbour and the Paisley Islands – part of the Salish Sea I love and I want to protect. I walk along its shores, I swim in it, and since I am a diver, I have explored it underwater. I fear for it. I do not want us to reach a collective stage in which we appreciate something when we no longer have it. The big threat to our Salish Sea has a name: BITUMEN.

New Food Systems Coordinator
Michalina Hunter is very happy to be joining the One Straw team for the summer as their student intern. She is particularly looking forward to helping to plan the incredible Edible Garden Tour, hanging out at farmers' market booths, writing articles for this newsletter, helping with Live and Learn events, researching the Community Food Hub initiative, and delving into the vibrant food culture on the Sunshine Coast.
S.O.S. Mariner's Rendezvous for Howe Sound on June 30th

A S.O.S. event, Save Our Sound, is scheduled for Sunday, June 30th between 12 noon and 2:00 p.m. where hundreds of boaters are expected to rendezvous on the water south of the McNab Creek Valley in support of maintaining the recovery of Howe Sound. The event is organized by the Future of Howe Sound Society. The purpose of this event is to draw attention to the threat of long term heavy duty non-sustainable industry returning to this area and the requirement for a comprehensive management plan to ensure the continuing natural beauty of Howe Sound for the enjoyment of future generations.

ROBERTS CREEK ARTS FESTIVAL
This year's Roberts Creek Arts Festival has a wider range of venues spread throughout our Roberts Creek Nation, celebrating the highest calibre arts in dream-come-true collaborative locations. Each venue will host live music, visual/performance arts, and offer artisan foods.
