The unfolding environmental tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico, and concerns at home with the Campbell government’s proposed development of Site C and the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway, all reflect a crisis in our spiralling energy needs, the efficiency of government and corporate green-washing, and the risks inherent in the economic choices we make.

Sunshine Coast Zero Waste and Resource Recovery Workshops scheduled for May 29 & 30

A two day workshop on Zero Waste and Resource Recovery Park planning will be held on Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30 with international Zero Waste consultant Richard V. Anthony. All members of the Sunshine Coast community are invited to learn about Zero Waste and participate in sustainability planning for their region. The workshops are hosted by SuCESS, Sunshine Coastal Environmental Sustainability Society.

Salal is an attractive, evergreen shrub native to the BC coast. It is hardy, grows in sun or shade and provides food and medicine. The sturdy leaves and branches bend but do not break easily. It provides beauty and sustenance. May our magazine do the same.

I just recently attended a Poultry and Rabbit Forum up in Quesnel sponsored by the Cariboo Central Interior Poultry Associaton. Over 110 people from all over the interior attended, including the Sunshine Coast.
