As the BC government continues to push forward with its plans to develop a massive liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry – which will require thousands of new fracking wells to feed new LNG plants – The Wilderness Committee, Sierra Club BC and lawyers at Ecojustice, are challenging the BC Oil & Gas Commission’s common practice of granting of repeated short-term water permits for oil and gas companies – a practice that violates BC’s own Water Act.

Coasters Attend Victoria BC Ferry Protest Rally

A bus load of concerned Sunshine Coast residents attended the BC Ferry protest rally in Victoria on March 11. They joined over 1000 citizens in expressing their dissatisfaction with the ferry service cuts. Speeches by business people, First Nations, the NDP, the ferry workers Union and everyday users reiterated the message to bring the ferry system back under the Ministry of Transportation.

In recognition of UN World Water Day next week, the Green Film Series brings the award-winning film, Watermark to the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse on Monday, March 17 at 7:30 pm. Watermark is a feature documentary film that brings together diverse stories from around the globe about our relationship with water: how we are drawn to it, what we learn from it, how we use it and the consequences of that use.

The Sunshine Coast Community Forest has announced that there will be a presentation of a watershed assessment of the Chapman Creek and Grey Creek watersheds on Monday, March 10 at 6:30 pm. at the Seaside Centre in Sechelt. The presentation by Ms. Glynnis Horel, P.Eng will detail the findings of a comprehensive coastal watershed assessment.
