Big Boys Gone Bananas!* is the second film in this fall's Green Film Series. The true story about a Swedish filmmaker and a banana corporation, dirty tricks, lawsuits, manipulation and the price of free speech. The date of the showing has been changed to Tuesday, October 23 at 7:30 pm at the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse to accomodate DEFEND OUR COAST initiative in Victoria. [View the trailer]

Gibsons Recycling Depot is launching phase one of a curbside collection program for recyclables in Gibsons announced owners Buddy Boyd and Barb Hetherington. GRD will use two electrically powered Ford Transit mini-cube vans. With this new service, Gibsons could be the first subscribed curbside collection of recyclables in Canada, if not in North America, using electrically-powered vehicles (EVs), non- dependent upon taxes.

Over 80 influential leaders from the business, First Nations, environmental, labour, academic, medical and artistic communities across Canada today announced an upcoming mass sit-in in front of the provincial legislature in Victoria, British Columbia on October 22. The sit-in will oppose tar sands pipelines and tankers and the threats they would pose to the west coast. A protest at Davis Bay is scheduled for October 24 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Organized by Alliance 4 Democracy Sunshine Coast, participants are asked to bring their signs and enthusiasm to line the highway along Davis Bay.
Tundra's Memorial Fountain Installed at Davis Bay

A memorial fountain has been installed at the Mission Point Park in Davis Bay as part of a campaign started by Duane Burnett in 2010 after the death of his beloved dog Tundra. Tundra's Drinking Fountain Campaign raises funds to put drinking fountain's along the Sunshine Coast that will serve both humans and dogs.
Sechelt Council Passes Bylaw 486, No Open Burning for Development

On August 1st the Sechelt Council passed Bylaw 486 which prohibits open burning for the purpose of land clearing for development beginning Jan. 1, 2014. After Jan. 1, 2014, developers can no longer burn and will have to use other methods, such as chipping, to dispose of the wastes from land clearing.
